Start with the wall, not the tile

In bathrooms and other wet zones, waterproofing should be considered before tiles cover the surface.

Layout matters around fittings and openings

Bathrooms and kitchens contain pipes, sockets, windows, niches, cabinets and sanitary fittings that affect the tile grid. A good layout reduces awkward slivers and keeps visible lines balanced. If large-format wall tiles are being used, ask how corners, external edges and cut-outs around mixers or sockets will be finished.

Coordinate tiling with the other trades

Confirm the sequence before work begins so newly tiled walls are not repeatedly drilled or opened for missing services. The quotation should also state whether adhesive, trims, grout, waterproofing and surface corrections are included or priced separately.
